Sandusky, OH (July 23, 2024) – A multi-vehicle accident reported in Sandusky County claimed one person’s life. The accident occurred at around 9:50 a.m. on July 22.
According to local news sources, a Kenworth T880 tractor-dump trailer was traveling westbound on the Ohio Turnpike. As the vehicle proceeded through the area near the Route 51 interchange, it collided with a concrete barrier. The vehicle then proceeded across the eastbound lanes and collided with a Ford Escape. The Ford then collided with a Kenworth T880 tractor-trailer and caught on fire. The driver of the Ford, identified as 35-year-old Samantha Smith of Chardon, Ohio, was fatally injured in the crash. She was pronounced deceased by authorities. The driver of the dump trailer was airlifted and flown to Mercy Hospital – St. Vincent Medical Center for emergency care. The driver of the Kenworth T880, who was identified as a 43-year-old man from Illinois, was uninjured. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
